Gaia is Not Great

The secular left have their religious doomsayers, too.

Actor Danny Glover, who is eagerly waiting for the 5th Lethal Weapon film to go into production, says the earthquake was a result of humanity screwing up the recent climate conference in Copenhagen.

A Pact With Gaia

I personally like the writer's closing comments: His obscene opinion would be bigger news if Glover had - in the manner of others - idiotically blamed a less fashionable deity.

Right.

Of course, I wonder if Glover has thought through a theodicy for Gaia. What sort of mean-spirited god would kill all those innocent, and let's not forget, impoverished, people. And they are a minority, too. What sort of racist butcher is this Gaia? She/he/it is hardly fair. Taking vengeance upon a helpless country of people, because 8,000 miles away, a bunch of rich white officials from those polluting, first world countries refused to give up their Jet Stream airliners and Escalades in order to stop man-made climate change? Wow. This Gaia sound like to me to be a real jerk. As Richard Dawkins has noted,

Gaia is arguably the most unpleasant character in all of history: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."

I guess we'll have to throw a few young virgins ioto the nearest volcano to appease Gaia.

Well, good to know that fundamentalist Christianity doesn't have a monopoly on saying stupid things about the reasons for natural disasters!

Of course, the scale of the Haitian disaster couldn't having anything to do with building codes, or the lack thereof.

Glover is a nut. He said this is from global warming, "you know what I sayin'".

Incredible.

Isn't the way God made the earth, with such things as the fault lines, and so forth. I'm no geologist, but it seems that earthquakes happen near these areas. And of course the bottom line is that:

"The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof,
the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers." Psalm 24:1-2

And lest we forget, the message of the earthquake is, "Unless you repent, you shall all likewise perish."
