Did you read the book?

No, of course you didn't read it and you never will. That's why you linked to someone else who may or may not have read it.

I have been reading the new book by Dawkins. It's easy to understand and he explains some of the massive evidence for evolution in great detail.

An even better book in my opinion is "Why Evolution is True" by Jerry Coyne, which was also published this year. Of course you won't read this book either.

Why do you spend your time complaining about evolutionary biology instead of studying it.?

Is it because you're lazy? Are you afraid? Are you too brainwashed with god fairy nonsense to understand science?

I'm just wondering what your problem is. Thanks.

You do realize those were atheists reviewing the book, right Bob?

You did read the reviews, right Bob?

Not everyone likes the same book. So what? What was this thread for? What was your point?

You, being a creationist, should really consider reading a book about evolution. I already recommended my preference, Coyne's book. Dawkins goes into extreme detail and that's good for somebody who is an evolution denier, but for me, who already understands how evolution works, and understands the evidence, Dawkins book can be a bit less than interesting in some parts of it. Still, it's a priceless book that belongs in every educated person's library.

Coyne's book is less to read, but he gets to the point quicker. Every paragraph is some new piece of evidence for evolution. Every paragraph shows that the biologists are right, and the evolution-deniers (people like you) are wrong.

Despite several years of studying evolutionary biology, I learned about evidence I never heard of before from Coyne's interesting and easy to understand book.

Creationists are often called willfully ignorant for a good reason. I have seen no evidence from you that you're any different from the rest of them.

I have looked at Darwin's teaching.

The bottom line for me is this: There must have been something eternal.
What was eternal to you bob?
Was it an eternal rock, or an eternal molecule, or an eternal gas perhaps?
I believe there had to be an Eternal Creator. And the fact that Jesus of Nazareth, Christ the Lord, died on a Cross, and then rose from the dead, settles this fact indeed.

As Dr. Luke tells us: "In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God." (The Book of Acts Chapter 1 verses 1-3)

Speaking for myself, I've read a number of books on evolution by evolutionists. Nothing undermines my faith in evolution quite like reading an evolutionist.

Wow bob, don't you read any authentic history books?

Have you read the Bible? You tell Fred and Steve they should read some Evolutionist's book, or books.

Check with the Library of Congress about the Bible. There's so much evidence of it's genuineness. More trust worthy then some of the so-called scientists who wrote about evolution.

"Have you read the Bible?"

Yes, and I noticed it is full of violence, genocide, slavery, and gibberish. I also noticed it's a bit out of date. The last time I checked I noticed it's 2009, and not thousands of years ago. Please try to stay current, instead of being permanently stuck in the ancient past.

"Speaking for myself, I've read a number of books on evolution by evolutionists. Nothing undermines my faith in evolution quite like reading an evolutionist."

I'm very pleased to know you at least tried to educate yourself.

Obviously you have been reading the wrong books. Not all books are created equal. For example the books written by Darwin in the 19th century are extremely obsolete. There's been 150 years of scientific progress since Darwin.

Please give Jerry Coyne's book a chance. It is by far the best book available for understanding evolution, in my opinion.

"Nothing undermines my faith in evolution quite like reading an evolutionist."

They are called "biologists", not "evolutionists".

I see a big problem you have. You talk about "faith in evolution" as if evolution was a religious idea.

Evolution is not a religious idea. Evolution is a basic scientific fact, which has even more powerful evidence than the fact that planets orbit stars. You will never hear a biologist talk about his "faith in evolution". They "accept" evolution as fact, because of the evidence it has.

About that evidence: Creationists often complain about fossils, which they know little about and they're always wrong, but even more important they don't understand evolution would have enough evidence to call it a powerful fact even if the total number of fossils was zero.

The most powerful, the most impossible to deny, evidence for evolution comes from discoveries made by molecular biologists. They are not out to prove evolution because evolution has been accepted as fact for more than a century. But every time a molecular biologist compares DNA sequences of different living species to determine evolutionary relationships, and they do this every day, they are adding to the mountains of evidence for evolution.

This is why it's ridiculous to talk about "faith in evolution". It's would be like saying I have faith in gravity.

Anyway, please consider the idea that thousands of biologists just might know a bit more about modern biology than you do. I compare your denial of evolution to telling a brain surgeon how to do his job.

Another book I recommend, published in 2006:

"The Making of the Fittest: DNA and the Ultimate Forensic Record of Evolution" by Sean B. Carroll.

You are fighting thousands of brilliant scientists with your denial of evolution. You're also denying tons of evidence you don't understand and don't even know about.

Please study harder and worry about the religious implications later. Knowing the truth should be more important than anything.

Bob, for your consideration:

"The late Professor FF Bruce was one of the world’s foremost Textual History critics (and a non-Christian) at the time that he said:
“The interval then between the dates of original composition and the earliest extant evidence becomes so small as to be in fact negligible, especially when compared to the dates of academically accepted Historical documents such as those detailing Roman History. The last foundation for any doubt that the scripts of the Old and New Testaments have come down to us substantially as they were written has now been removed. Both the authenticity and the general integrity of these works may now be finally established and proved, probably to be the most authentic historical documents known to man.”"
So the truth about Jesus of Nazerath has great evidence, more so then Ceasar, and other historical facts.

"This is why it's ridiculous to talk about "faith in evolution". It's would be like saying I have faith in gravity."

And how do you explain the creation that we see before us. Do you have faith in an eternal gas, which always was, or an eternal huge rock, which always was?

How does that work bob? Just one simple question.

But Bob, what did you expect? I mean, wasn't the Bible written by a bunch of animals? Predatory primates?

Weren't the Bible writers just doing what evolution programmed them to do? Haven't you heard of sociobiology or evolutionary psychology?

Why are you attacking your fellow hominids? Do you have a beef against natural selection?

I can't believe that any self-respecting Darwinist would badmouth the products of natural selection.

I'm beginning to suspect that you must be a closet creationist. A sockpuppet masquerading as a Darwinian.

steve, I don't think you have any idea what natural selection is. If you did understand natural selection, you might be able to figure out that it has nothing to do with genocide.

You get started on Coyne's book yet?

I didn't think so.

"Do you have faith in an eternal gas, which always was, or an eternal huge rock, which always was?"

Your strange question has nothing to do with evolutionary biology, which only explains the development of new species.

Science has several branches. Evolutionary biology is only one of those branches. That's what I'm interested in, and that's why I stopped by here.

I'm also interested in why so many millions of Americans are evolution deniers.

This is from the new book by Richard Dawkins. It shows why Europeans call our country "Idiot America".

In October 2008 a group of about sixty American high-school teachers met at the Center for Science Education of Emory University, in Atlanta. Some of the horror stories they had to tell deserve wide attention. One teacher reported that students 'burst into tears' when told they would be studying evolution. Another teacher described how students repeatedly screamed 'No!' when he began talking about evolution in class. Another reported that pupils demanded to know why they had to learn about evolution, given that it was 'only a theory'. Yet another teacher described how 'churches train students to come to school with specific questions to ask to sabotage my lessons'.

My comment: It's obvious to me that Christian children are relentlessly brainwashed to fear evolutionary biology. When they become adults (they never really grow up) they act like you people who think they are smarter than the entire scientific community, even though it's obvious they don't even know what science is. (Hint - even religious scientists don't invoke your god fairy's magic wand.)

Natural selection selects for people who commit genocide. After all, it's not as if natural selection weeded them out. Try to follow the logic of your own position.
