Will Darwinians Seethe or just Whine?

Newsweek took a poll.

Apparently, according to this poll, nearly 91 percent of Americans acknowledge their image of God implanted within them and affirm God's existence.

I am glad to hear that, I think.

However, that is not the best part.

The pollsters also asked people about their views concerning creationism and evolution.

Nearly half (48 percent) of the public rejects the scientific theory of evolution; one-third (34 percent) of college graduates say they accept the Biblical account of creation as fact. Seventy-three percent of Evangelical Protestants say they believe that God created humans in their present form within the last 10,000 years; 39 percent of non-Evangelical Protestants and 41 percent of Catholics agree with that view.

Aside from the dishonest description of evolution as being "scientific," it is rather remarkable that nearly half the public rejects evolution. And a third of college graduates accept the biblical account of creation as fact. College graduates mind you. Not the popular Darwinian cartoon of nose picking, high school drop out hill billies.

So, what are Darwinians to do with these startling numbers? How on earth did 34 percent of the American public get out of college not believing Darwinian evolution without question? The thought of abiogenesis, the living arising from the non-living, dinosaurs becoming birds, etc, is a very plausible explanation for the way things are. Why can't people see this?

Sure there are problems in the details. How could Darwin know about the complexity of DNA? Sniggling little difficulties like the complexity of DNA shouldn't keep people from believing particles-to-people evolution. It will all get worked out in the future sometime. Just trust the ability of science to find the answers.

Evolutionary propagandists must double their apologetic efforts.

Perhaps their spokesmen need a better way to employ their mocking ridicule and sarcastic ad hominems when they debate IDers and creationists on Larry King Live. Maybe Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins can write a book together. We need more college age atheists to post Youtube videos making fun of creationists.

Obviously there are school boards out there in the U.S. not doing their job of indoctrinating, er, I mean, educating young minds. Here we have a world view that must be embraced uncritically because its "scienctific" merits have been firmly established by a court of law. No court of law can be wrong about anything, especially the "scientific" merits of Darwinian evolution.

There must be stealth creationists teaching in these schools, I am sure of it. There are school principals and superintendents who must be smoked out with the threat of public scorn and financial ruination by ACLU law suits. They must be found so to let evolution prevail.

Please keep in mind...

This is like polling the American public in 2002 to find out how many of them think that Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction.

The vast majority would have said.. "yes, Saddam has weapons of mass destruction".

Opinion polls of ignorant people mean nothing. The only opinion polls that would mean anything in 2002 would have been opinion polls of weapons inspectors and intelligence agents.

Similarly, it would make more sense to poll scientists about evolution. Liberal arts majors barely have a clue about how to evaluate a scientific theory like evolution.

In conclusion, I submit that the results of the poll you cite here no value to either support the veracity of intelligent design theory or to debunk the theory of evolution.
